LEWISBURG, Pa.- Bucknell women's basketball rolled to two victories last week as part of its five-game winning streak and sophomore forward Ashley Sofilkanich served as the catalyst for the 2-0 mark as the leading scorer and rebound collector. The league voters noticed her accomplishment and named the Bucknellian as PenFed Credit Union Player of the Week for the second consecutive time. Sofilkanich became the first league player to earn the award back-to-back weeks since Lehigh's Frannie Hottinger on Feb. 13 & Feb. 20, 2023. A Bison has not accomplished the feat since Kaitlyn Slagus in 2016 (Dec. 19 & 27).Â
Sofilkanich averaged 20.0 ppg and 10.0 rpg last week as the Bison defeated 2023-24 WNIT participant Vermont 62-59 in overtime and edged Dartmouth 53-50. She poured in 23 points on the Catamounts defense via seven field goals and nine free throws. Against the Big Green, she again totaled seven field goals while depositing three free throws. She was omnipresent on the glass grabbing 15 rebounds as part of her career eighth double-double and fourth of the 2024-25 campaign already equaling her total from 2023-24.Â
Her 19.1 ppg average leads the Patriot League by nearly a full point and ranks 36th nationally. She slots second in the circuit with 9.3 rpg, sits 51th nationally, and has two of the highest single game totals (16 & 15). Her presence in the paint has contributed to Bucknell's defense allowing only 58.8 ppg - third best in the conference. Her 2.7 blocks per game are first in the PL and seventh nationally.Â
Sofilkanich and the Bison play one final time in the Steel City tomorrow when the team faces 6-2 Duquesne at 6 p.m.
