LEWISBURG, Pa.- Bucknell wrestling (2-3) led 15-14 with two bouts remaining but lost the lead as the Wisconsin Badgers (1-2) rallied to win 23-15 on Saturday night at Davis Gym. The rally included a decision and a quick pin to sink the Bison's hopes of defeating a Big Ten foe for the first time this season.Â
The match started in an upset when #24 Myles Takats fell 4-2 to Luke Condon in a decision at 174 pounds. The Bison wrestler could not overcome a first period takedown.Â
Logan Deacetis tied the match 3-3 with his decision in the 184-pound class. Deacetis trailed 7-3 entering the final period but scored seven points on an escape, takedown, and a nearfall.Â
Bucknell led 8-3 after Dillon Bechtold collected the technical fall win over Niccolo Colucci at 197. Bechtold had the 10-2 advantage after the first period and coasted to the easy win punctuated by two takedowns in the final stanza.Â
The lead evaporated as the Badgers swept the next three matches (heavyweight, 125-pound, and 133-pound) and collected 11 points. Zach Fugitt upset #25 Kurt Phipps 11-2 at 133.Â
#20 Dylan Chappell (141) reversed the prevailing trend with a win by decision. However, the victory came as bittersweet as Chappell's 13-0 lead built by two nearfalls, a takedown, and a reversal nearly escaped when Brock Bobizen outscored the Bucknell grappler 10-1 in the final round.Â
The Bison seized the lead after Aiden Davis (149) collected the major decision over Royce Nilo, 17-4. Davis has started hot and continued his success with a win over a Big Ten wrestler. He prevented any comeback by winning the final period, 6-2.Â
Cade Wirnsberger (157) lost a 2-0 decision in a largely defensive match versus Luke Mechler. The Badger won via an escape point and riding time and returned the lead to Wisconsin hands.Â
Sean Walker (165) and the Bison entered the final bout down 17-15 but any comeback hopes were ruined by the quick pin.Â
