Wrestling Obtains Three Pins; Sits Seventh at Midlands Championships

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill.- Bucknell scored 42 team points and obtained three pins during the first day of the Midlands Championships. The Bison sit seventh out of 25 teams. If the placement stands, it will rank as the Orange & Blue's highest finish at the Midlands Championships topping the 13th-place finish in 1990.

As typical of his prowess, Dylan Chappell (141) led the way with a perfect 3-0 record. Chappell displayed supremacy over Big Ten wrestlers with a decision and technical fall over Illinois and Michigan foes. He defeated Princeton's Eligh Rivera 8-6 in the quarterfinals.

Logan Shephard (285) recorded a 3-0 day with wins over Rutgers and West Virginia wrestlers. He pinned Rutgers's John O'Donnell in 3:17 and defeated West Virginia's Michael Wolfgram in a 7-2 decision. Â

Cade Wirnsberger (157) also posted two wins. He won a 4-1 decision over Lehigh's Griffin Gonzalez before falling in a major decision to Central Michigan's Johnny Lovett. He rebounded in the consolation second round with a tiebreaker win over Illinois's Ryan Bennett.

Kurt Phipps (133) recorded a decision and a major decision over Indiana and Penn wrestlers before falling in a 3-2 decision to Rutgers's Dylan Shawver in the quarterfinals.

Logan Deacetis (184) went 1-2 but recorded one of Bucknell's three pins. He handled Northern Illinois's Spencer Steiner in two minutes and ten seconds in the consolation's third round.

Tyler Bienus (184) also went 1-2 and nabbed a pin. His triumph also came in the consolation's third round when he pinned Harvard's Matthew Walsh in 3:35.
