Reese Zemitis Wins Rookie of the Week

LEWISBURG, Pa.- Reese Zemitis received her first starting opportunity Saturday and delivered a shining performance against the Hofstra Pride. The conference voters rewarded the freshman with her first-ever PenFed Patriot League Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week award.Â
"We're thrilled with Reese's contributions and are excited to see her continued improvement," said head coach Trevor Woodruff.
Inserted into the starting lineup due to injuries, Zemitis poured in 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting with three treys against an aggressive and swarming Hofstra defense. The rookie made an immediate impact posting eight points in the opening quarter. She gathered three rebounds, supplied two assists, blocked a shot, and grabbed a steal.Â
Zemitis has scored in double-digits three times in nine games with her 15 points serving as a new career and season high. The freshman also set new career highs in made field goals (6) and minutes (37). She has made a three-pointer in six consecutive games and in eight of her nine contests. She averages 7.8 ppg (third on the team) and 3.0 rpg and leads the team in steals with 1.4 per game.
It is the Bison women's third weekly award. Ashley Sofilkanich notched Player of the Week on Dec. 2 and Dec. 9.
Bucknell returns to action on Jan. 2 against Lehigh in Sojka to commence Patriot League play.
