LEWISBURG, Pa. – Dave Steigerwald, a 1996 Bucknell graduate and a four-year member of the Bison men's basketball team, is returning to his alma mater as an Athletics development officer.
In his new role, Steigerwald will work closely with senior associate athletic director for revenue generation and strategic advancement Joel Moersch, University Advancement's strategic philanthropy team, and Bucknell head coaches to help secure gifts for the Bison Club and promote the Drive for Five.
Steigerwald was an outstanding player under Hall-of-Fame coaches Charlie Woollum and Pat Flannery during his playing days at Bucknell. Known as an outstanding long-range shooter, Steigerwald's .404 career 3-point shooting percentage is the seventh-best in team history. He averaged better than 10 points per game as a junior and senior and was part of teams that went 38-16 against Patriot League competition.
Steigerwald continued his basketball career after graduating from Bucknell with a degree in business and English. He played professionally in Europe for two years and also spent one year on the World Tour with the famed Harlem Globetrotters.
Steigerwald earned his MB in marketing and management at St. John's while serving as a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach. He later joined the business world, working on Wall Street with Goldman Sachs and UBS. He served as a management consultant with Accenture and was working in medical device sales before returning to Bucknell in his new fundraising role.
"I am thrilled to be back on board at Bucknell as a part of Athletics and University Advancement," said Steigerwald. "It is exciting to return to a place that has played such a pivotal role in my personal and professional growth as a student-athlete, and has had such a positive impact on my life. The energy and passion that surround Bucknell Athletics are contagious, and I can't wait to contribute to the vibrant community that I once called home. Being part of a team that supports our student-athletes and enhances their experiences is an incredible opportunity, and I'm eager to help foster the same sense of pride and achievement that I felt during my time as a Bison."
"I am very excited to welcome Dave Steigerwald '96 back to Bucknell as a development officer focused on increasing philanthropic support for our student-athletes," said Abbey Scheckter, director of development/strategic philanthropy. "Dave's deep passion for Bucknell and his remarkable ability to build lasting relationships with teammates, mentors, coaches, and alumni set him apart in a highly competitive search. In addition, his experience in collegiate sports will be invaluable as he engages with our athletic donors to enhance the athletic experience at Bucknell."
"Dave embodies Bucknell's scholar-athlete model, having experienced it firsthand as a student-athlete," said Moersch. "His passion for this community and understanding of its impact set him apart in a highly competitive candidate pool. With deep connections among Bucknellians and a genuine focus on enhancing the student-athlete experience, we are excited to welcome him home as a development officer for athletics."
Steigerwald is married to the former Lori Houck '00, a 2014 inductee into the Bucknell Athletic Hall of Fame after a terrific career with the Bison women's basketball team. Dave and Lori have three children, Cate (10), Will (8), and Lee (3).
