CHAMPIONS! Men's Soccer Takes Down Colgate 3-0 in Patriot League Final

Bucknell earned its fifth Patriot League championship and its first since 2014, when it won 3-2 in overtime on Sebastiaan Blickman's golden goal at Boston University. The Bison were one of only two Division I teams in the country to go from last place in 2023 to at least a share of a conference regular-season title in 2024, and now they have a tournament trophy and an NCAA Tournament bid to go with it. The team will find out its NCAA Tournament destination on Monday afternoon,
"Things happen fast and it was a tough build, but I'm so happy for our guys," said Patriot League Coach of the Year Dave Brandt. "For our upperclassmen and especially our seniors, to be able to experience something like this is just a joy to see."
Fourth-seeded Colgate (8-9-3), which was coming off a 1-0 road win over No. 1 Boston University in the semifinals, started the match on the front foot, but Kattrup's goal in the 11th minute changed the script. Jack Lucas spotted Kattrup at the top of the 18, and the lefty curled a beautiful strike past a diving Oliver Townend.
Energized by the goal and the standing-room-only crowd, Bucknell seemed to be in control the rest of the way. The Bison nearly added a second goal in the 32nd minute when Lucas flashed a low cross along the face of goal to Mason Lillis, but his redirect was acrobatically volleyed off the line by defender Toby Goldner. What a hit by Waldemar Kattrup!! He curls in a beautiful effort to put the Bison in front early. #rayBucknell

Only 30 seconds into the second half, Cohen Weaver sent in Drew Roskos, whose chip over the caught-out goalkeeper scraped the top of the crossbar.
Colgate's best chance of the night came in the 52nd minute when a rare turnover in the back led to a hard shot from Alex St. John, but Bison keeper Freddie Lapworth turned it aside.
Weaver ripped a shot just over the bar seven minutes later, and then just past the hour mark the Bison found their insurance goal. David Krumov whistled in a tricky shot that was saved but not controlled, and Drew Roskos smashed home the rebound for a 2-0 lead.

Townend made another terrific diving save on Krumov in the 72nd minute, and then in the 76th he made a kick save on Lillis from close range that popped all the way out to the top of the 18. Roskos was first to it to keep the play alive, and then Cade Whitmire headed the ball over to Prime for a running volley that iced the game. It was a special moment for Prime, as the senior scored his first career goal in the Patriot League title match.

As the countdown reached zero, senior captain Jack Roberto launched the ball high in the air as his fellow students stormed the pitch in celebration.
"We had a vision for this game to be emotionally and physically dominant, and I thought for most of the game we did just that," said Brandt. "In the last game we were up 1-0 at the half against American and then we flattened. We challenged them not to let that happen again, and the guys took that challenge and played a terrific second half."
Bucknell (7-6-6) outshot Colgate 16-9, including 11-5 in the second half. Townend tallied five saves and Lapworth three.
It was the team's eighth clean sheet of the season, and after the match center back Aidan Lawlor was named Tournament MVP. Lapworth, Roskos, and Krumov joined him on the All-Tournament Team.
