About this Weekend
- After opening the season at home last week against Boston University, the Bucknell men's and women's swimming & diving teams welcome Binghamton and Seton Hall for the non-scored Bucknell Fall Invite.
- This early season meet will feature a larger program designed to get the swimmers into more events. | MEET SCHEDULE
- The Bison could not have asked for a better start to the 2024-25 season, as they routed Boston University 215-84 last Saturday at Kinney Natatorium. Bucknell avenged a dual-meet loss to the Terriers from a year ago, and the Bison also finished one spot behind Boston University at the 2024 Patriot League Championships.
- Bucknell won 13 of the 16 events and took at least the top two places in nine events against the Terriers. Two members of a promising first-year class led the way. Clara Renner won all three of her individual events – the 500 and 1,000-yard freestyles and the 200 butterfly – and Sydney Jee swept both breaststroke events. Renner and Jee also swam on a winning relay.
- Renner's time of 2:03.24 made her the ninth-fastest performer in school history in that event.
- Kyla Kelly and Rylie Giles won two individual events apiece. Kelly took the 100 backstroke and 200 IM and was also the runner-up in the 200 back.
- Giles' wins came in the 100 and 200 free as the Bison dominated the sprints. They went 1-2-3-4 in the 50 free, with Virginia Hastings leading Ashley Piacentino, Jennifer Bolden, and Sara Ketron.
- Bucknell won six events in the season-opener against Boston University but dropped a close 157.5-140.5 decision to the Terriers on Saturday. The meet came down to the final relay, where the Bison needed a 1-2 finish to pull out a one-point win. Bucknell split its 400 free relay teams to go for the sweep, but the Terriers iced it with a close win by just .77 seconds.
- Chris Kopac paced Bucknell with wins in the 100 and 200 free. Justin DiSanto had a strong meet with a win in the 50 free, a runner-up finish to Kopac in the 100, and a come-from-behind anchor leg to help the team pull out a close win in the 200 medley relay.
- Also victorious for the Bison were Andy Dorsel in the 200 IM and Jackson Vinarub in the 3-meter dive.
- Vinarub hit a big PR with a winning score of 307.8, which moved him up to the No. 2 spot in team history. Vinarub also finished second on the 1-meter board.
- Alex Crossing had a solid meet in the distance free events with second-place finishes in the 500 and 1,000.
- This is the second of nine home meets for the Bison this season, culminating with the 2025 Patriot League Championships Feb. 19-22.
- Next up is a quad meet at home against American, Lafayette, and Navy on Nov. 9 starting at noon.
