LEWISBURG, Pa.- The Bucknell Bison volleyball team (4-7, 0-2) fell in four sets (11-25, 22-25, 25-22, 21-25) to the league favorite Colgate Raiders (7-4, 1-0 PL) on Saturday afternoon. Catherine Jamison's game-high 18 kills were not enough to overcome the Raiders.Â
Recap
Colgate dominated the first set from the opening serve, blitzing out to a 4-0 advantage and stretching the lead to 18-6 before the Bison could throw up fortifications. Bucknell stabilized the game and cut the deficit to 21-11. However, Colgate used another 4-0 run to win the set, 25-11.Â
The second set was more even, and Bucknell led 6-3 early, thanks to two kills each from Jamison and Cameron Lloyd. With the score at 8-7 Bucknell, the Bison went on a 4-0 lead to build some cushion. Colgate kept trying to come back, but the Bison stayed ahead of the hard-charging Raiders. Eventually, the Raiders tied it up at 19-19. The teams then alternated two points. With the score at 21-21, Colgate went on a set-sealing 3-0 run. Bucknell recovered a point back, but Colgate retaliated to win the set 25-22.Â
In the third set, Bucknell overcame a 2-0 Colgate start to take a 7-4 advantage. Bucknell continued to distance themselves from Colgate despite the Raiders' best efforts, eventually creating a 20-15 margin. The Raiders sneaked within 23-21 and, having the momentum looked, poised to steal the set and match, but a Colgate service error and an enthusiastic Jamison kill overcame a final Colgate point to win the set, 25-22, and extend the game.Â
The fourth set proved to be the most thrilling one. Both teams fired out of the gate, battling back and forth with Bucknell forging ahead for a 10-7 lead. The Bison were up 14-12 when Colgate used a field goal run to take the lead. Bucknell regained the advantage at 16-15 until Colgate again grabbed the 18-16 lead. The teams traded points until it was 20-18 Colgate. Bucknell used a 3-0 run on two Colgate errors and a Jamison kill to regain the momentum. Alas, Colgate used a 5-0 run to win the set, 25-21, and end the game.Â
