LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell sophomore attacker Alex Nesbitt will swap out her orange and blue uniform for her home nation's red and white maple leaf kits when she joins the Canadian U20 team at the 2023 USA Lacrosse Fall Classic in Sparks, Md.
The three-day event takes place at the USA Lacrosse headquarters on Oct. 13-15. The weekend slate features the U.S. and Canadian men's senior teams and women's U20 teams, reigning NCAA women's champion Northwestern, NCAA men's semifinalist Penn State, the USA Select U16 and U18 boys' and girls' teams, and high school-aged teams from the Haudenosaunee Nation and Ontario.
Team Canada jumps right in with an opening game against Team USA on Friday, Oct. 13 at 5 p.m. The U.S. squad defeated Canada in the gold medal game at the last World Lacrosse U20 Championships in 2019, when it was staged as a U19 event. The upcoming USA Lacrosse Fall Classic is part of the build-up to the 2024 World Championships in Hong Kong.
Team Canada will also play defending NCAA champion Northwestern on Oct. 14 at 12:30 p.m.
Nesbitt made a big impact for Bucknell as a first-year attacker last spring. Playing in 13 games with five starts, Nesbitt recorded 19 goals and seven assists for 26 points. She recorded two six-point games, scoring four goals with two assists against St. Bonaventure and five goals and one assist against Holy Cross. She also had a hat trick against Navy and scored twice against Boston University.
Nesbitt is a native of Brooklin, Ontario, and attended The Hill Academy, which is the top-ranked girl's lacrosse team in Canada. In addition to being a four-year starter for her school, she played club lax for six-time provincial champion Oshawa Lady Blue Knights and also had stints with the Team Ontario U17 and U19 squads.
