Baseball Finishes in 7-7 Tie at Saint Joseph’s as Game Called Due to Rain in 6th

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Bucknell and Saint Joseph's were all even at 7-7 in the sixth inning when Wednesday's non-league game was called due to heavy rain at Smithson Field. It was an official game and will go down as a tie on both teams' records.
Freshman Michael Trommer's first collegiate hit was a two-run double in the first inning, and Sean Keys belted a three-run homer in a four-run second inning to stake the Bison (18-21-1) to an early 6-0 lead.
Four walks led to a four-run rally for Saint Joseph's (16-19-1) in the bottom of the second, and the Hawks took their first lead of the day on Travis Rinker's two-out, three-run homer in the bottom of the fourth.
Bucknell tied it in the fifth when Jacob Terwilliger was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, then went first to third on an Anthony Sherwin single and scored on a passed ball.
Nikhil Patel got a big out in the bottom of the fifth. He entered the game with a man at third and two outs and retired Conlan Wall on a liner to Terwilliger in right field.
Ben Sinins delivered a pinch-hit single to lead off the sixth, but the Bison could not score and the game was called as the skies opened up ahead of a thunderstorm in Philadelphia.
Sherwin went 2-for-3 with a walk to raise his season batting average to .375 and his Patriot League-leading on-base percentage to .507. Terwilliger reached base twice, stole a base, and scored two runs, and Jacob Corson walked twice and also scored a pair of runs.
Keys' home run was his 11th of the season, tying him with Ben Yoder for seventh on Bucknell's single-season list. His 49 RBIs are tied for eighth-most in a season in Bucknell history.
Ryan Picollo had two hits and Ryan Weingartner drove in a pair for the Hawks, who are 7-5 in the Atlantic 10. Both teams finished with seven hits in the game, while the two pitching staffs combined for 13 walks.
Bucknell concludes its regular season with a three-game home series against Holy Cross this weekend. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday, when the team will celebrate its Senior Day.
