Bison Bats Come Alive in Game Two as Baseball Earns Split at Army

The Bison are now 13-12 overall and 7-3 in the Patriot League, and they are tied with Navy atop the Patriot League standings. Army is also 13-12 overall and 4-2 in league play. Bucknell heads to Holy Cross for a doubleheader on Monday, while the Black Knights host Navy.
Bucknell came into the day averaging 11 runs per game in Patriot League play, but Tanner Gresham tossed a gem in the opener, blanking the Bison on three hits. Bucknell quickly broke out again in the second game, however. Jacob Corson and Tyler Dunn homered in the top of the first to get the Bison going, and Grant Voytovich and Sean Keys added long balls later in the game as part of a 15-hit attack.
This was a matchup of last year's Patriot League championship series, won by Army in a third and deciding game. The Black Knights and Bison were picked 1-2 in this year's preseason poll and came in with very similar statistical profiles. They will meet again Apr. 15-16 in a three-game series at Depew Field.
Army 7, Bucknell 0 – Game 1
Gresham (2-1) scattered three hits over seven innings as Army won a briskly played opener in an hour and 44 minutes, ending Bucknell's seven-game winning streak.
Kevin Dubrule went 3-for-4 for Army, and it was his three-run homer that keyed a four-run third inning that broke open a scoreless game. The Black Knights added two more in the fourth and one in the fifth against Chris DiFiore (1-3), who was coming off a shutout of his own last week against Lafayette.
Two of Bucknell's three hits were doubles off the bats of Jake Wortman and Chris Klein.
Freshman Hadley Maxwell pitched two scoreless innings in relief for the Bison.
Bucknell 11, Army 7 – Game 2
Voytovich went 4-for-5 for his first career four-hit game and belted his fourth home run of the season to lead the Bison to the game-two win. Dunn went 3-for-5, and Keys, Billy Kender, and Kyle Lyons all had two hits apiece.
Coach Scott Heather shuffled the middle of his lineup in game two, and the 3-4-5 trio of Keys, Dunn, and Voytovich went 9-for-14 with five RBIs and eight runs scored, and all three left the yard.
Corson hit a solo shot off Matthew Tonnebaum to open the scoring in the top of the first, and after Keys walked, Dunn crushed one well over the wall in right to make it 3-0.
After Army pulled within 3-2 on Ethan Ellis' home run in the second, the Bison picked up two insurance runs in the fourth. Voytovich legged out an infield hit and then Kender reached on an error. Klein moved the runners up with a bunt, and then Nic Adamo drove in a run with a sharply hit ground ball to short. Kender then moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a wild pitch to make it 5-2.
BILLY KENDER! Huge 2-run double adds to the lead in the 6th inning, and then he scored on Chris Klein's double to make it 8-4. #rayBucknell

The Black Knights chipped away with single runs in the fourth and fifth, but the Bison broke it open with three in the sixth and two more in the seventh. After Dunn singled to open the sixth, Voytovich, Kender, and Klein hit three straight doubles to make it 8-4.
Voytovich hit a two-run shot over the wall in center to make it 10-4 in the seventh, and then Keys tacked on one more in the ninth with an opposite-field blast, his team-leading sixth homer of the season.

Army made things interesting in the ninth after a bout of wildness from the Bison bullpen. Theo Farynick had already gotten the final out in the seventh and struck out the Patriot League's leading hitter Ross Friedrick to strand a runner in the eighth, but to start the ninth he allowed a single followed by a walk and a hit batsman. Farynick struck out the next two batters, but then a walk and another hit batter forced in runs. Ryan Osinski came in and walked Dubrule to make it 11-7 and bring up the .422-hitting Friedrick as the tying run. On a 2-2 pitch, Osinski froze Friedrick with a breaking ball to end the game.
Will Greer (3-3) allowed four runs over 5.2 innings for the win, and Osinski earned his third save.
Coleson Titus went 3-for-4 for Army, which collected 12 hits in the game. Ronnebaum allowed eight runs, six earned, and nine hits over six innings.
