SELINSGROVE, Pa.- The Bucknell Bison men's track & field commenced the outdoor season at the Jim Taylor Invitational on Saturday by netting eight wins.
"We got exactly what we needed out of this meet," said head coach Kevin Donner. "It was a rust buster after the spring break layover and the wet and colder weather was an obstacle, however, the majority of the team had the right mindset and competed well. I have always felt that times and distances are irrelevant in March and it is just about competing. The marks we use for Patriot League seeding usually come from one of our last three regular-season meets. With that said, we had some great highlights, including Franco Perinotti winning the pole vault with the third-best mark in school history. This was a nice setup meet for next week's Colonial Relays."
Franco Perinotti opened his senior outdoor season with a gold-place finish in the pole vault. His clearance of 16-4 ¾ not only won the event but inserted him at third all-time in the Bucknell rankings.
The Bison dominated the throwing events. Robert Feeney won first in the hammer throw (177-9) and John Calisi grabbed second place (171-8). Braden Stryker obtained first (52-2 ¾) and Wade Shomper took home second (49-6 ½) in the shot put. In the discus throw, Keenan LaMontagne won first with a toss of 148-0. Stryker finished second (147-5) and Wade Shomper grabbed third (144-10).
Henry Didden won first in the 300m steeplechase with a time of 9:44.56.
Samuel Whittaker continued his streak from the indoor season by clinching first in the 800m run. His time of 1:55.27 pulled out the victory.
Brian Scotto earned first in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.36.
Tristan An won first in the high jump with a leap of 6-5. Jeffrey Cianfrocca finished second (6-1 ¼).
Cooper Hyken finished second in the 100m dash with a time of 11.18.
In the javelin throw, Trevor Drescher grabbed second with a toss of 185-1.
