LEWISBURG, Pa. – Sabrina Vumbacco, who was part of two third-place relays on Wednesday, earned another medal by placing second in the 500 freestyle finals on the second day of the 2023 Patriot League Swimming & Diving Championships. She, along with Kayla Lichtner, added to Bucknell's all-time top-10 lists, and the Bison remain in third place following Thursday's events.
Vumbacco already held the second-best 500 freestyle time in program history, but she improved on that mark Thursday with a 4:48.23 to finish just behind champion Molly Webber of Army.
Lichtner swam a 23.56 in the 50 freestyle prelims, placing her eighth all-time in the Bucknell annals. She went on to take seventh in the finals.
Bucknell's 400 medley team, consisting of Esme Hunter, Alexandra Ritorto, Vumbacco and Jennifer Bolden, scored 28 points for the Bison with a fifth-place finish.
Caroline McGann (8th, 500 freestyle, Meghan Catherwood (7th, one-meter dive), and Gina Hinthorn (8th, one-meter dive) each posted top-eight finishes as well.
Bucknell has collected 180 points through two days of the meet and trails second-place Army (246) and first-place Navy (268.5).
The Patriot League Championships continue Friday morning with the 100 butterfly prelims beginning at 10 a.m.
