LEWISBURG, Pa. – Andy Rendos '10, a two-time All-American and four-time NCAA qualifier for the Bucknell wrestling team from 2006 to 2010, has been selected for membership into the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2024, the conference's Hall of Fame Committee announced this month. Rendos is just the second member of the Bucknell wrestling family to be chosen for the Hall of Fame, joining Bill Graham.
"Andy was as gritty a competitor as I've ever been around," said Bucknell head coach Dan Wirnsberger. "He had a desire and a will to win that was contagious to those around him. Andy understood the importance of chosen suffering through the training process which allowed him to be as prepared as anyone in the country."
Part of the first recruiting class after the Bucknell wrestling program was re-launched in 2005, Rendos posted 121 career victories with the Bison and ranks second in program history in the category behind only teammate Kevin LeValley '11. A dozen of those victories came at the NCAA Championships, where Rendos finished fifth as a junior in 2009 and sixth the following year. In 2010, Rendos became Bucknell's first EIWA Champion when he won the 165-pound title. He also finished second at the EIWA Championships as a junior, fourth as a sophomore and third as a freshman.
Rendos posted a 26-2 career record in EIWA duals, including 14 straight wins to close out his career. His final career winning percentage of .791 (121-32) ranks sixth in school history, and his 24 career pins are also top 10. Rendos' 19 dual victories in 2006-07 are tied for the program record for a single campaign.
A team co-captain all four years at Bucknell, Rendos was a two-time recipient of the William A. Graham IV Most Outstanding Wrestler Award and became the sixth wrestler to win the Christy Mathewson Award as the top athlete in his class. Rendos entered the Bucknell Athletics Hall of Fame with the Class of 2020 as a first-ballot honoree.
"Andy displayed tremendous leadership and character during his time at Bucknell and I am proud of the man he has become, as he is a very successful professional and an amazing husband and father," said Wirnsberger.
Prior to his arrival at Bucknell, the Brockway, Pa. native was a two-time Pennsylvania State Champion in 2005 and 2006. During his time at Brockway Area High School, Rendos accumulated a record of 144-16, which included undefeated ledgers during his junior and senior seasons.
Joining Rendos in the EIWA Hall of Fame Class of 2024 is William & Mary's Thierry Chaney, writer and contributor Denny Diehl of Lehigh, Princeton's Johnny Orr and Lehigh's Tom Toggas.
The 2024 EIWA Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Sojka Pavilion immediately prior to the finals of the EIWA Championships.
