LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell University baseball head coach Scott Heather has announced the 2023 schedule, with Bucknell opening its 2023 campaign in Kentucky against Louisville on Friday, February 17 for a three-game series.
The series against the Cardinals, the first-ever meeting between the two schools, highlights five matchups against power-five schools in Bucknell's first seven games. The Bison will also take on Boston College (February 24), and Pitt (February 28) to close the month.
Bucknell's matchup against Boston College opens the Swig & Swine Classic in Charleston, S.C., as the Bison travel to the tournament held in the Palmetto State for the second straight year. The Bison will also take on Ball State (February 25) and Merrimack (February 26) to round out the weekend. Bucknell has never faced Boston College or Merrimack, and dropped a narrow 8-7 decision to Ball State to open the 2022 campaign at the Swig & Swine Classic in the first-ever meeting between the two institutions. Bucknell went 0-3 at the tournament last season, falling in close games to the Cardinals, Richmond, and Iowa.
The Bison open March with a three-game series in Greensboro, N.C. at NC A&T from March 3-5, before returning to Depew Field to host Marist on Wednesday, March 8. Bucknell faced the Aggies in 2018 for three games in North Carolina, taking two of three in the series.
Bucknell's game against Marist is the first of four straight home games for the Bison in March, with Bucknell also hosting Rhode Island for three games from March 11-12. The two teams have met twice in program history, with the last meeting coming in 2003.
Bucknell then takes on UMBC in Baltimore in its final preparation before the Patriot League season gets underway on Friday, March 17 for a four-game series at Navy. The Bison will feature at home nine times in the month of March in total, and eight in April.
The Patriot League Baseball Championship is set to begin with the semifinal round on May 13-14, with the championship series set for May 19-21 at the site of the higher seed.
Bucknell returns all-conference performers Will Greer, Jacob Corson, Grant Voytovich, and Tyler Dunn from last season's team that finished 22-26 overall with a 14-11 record in Patriot League contests.
