Bucknell to Celebrate Winter Title IX 50th Anniversary Weekend; NGWSD Clinic Set for Sunday

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Throughout the 2022-23 season, Bucknell's women's teams will be celebrating three Title IX 50th Anniversary weekends. The winter edition is coming up this Saturday, with the basketball, swimming & diving, and track & field teams all competing at home. In addition, Bucknell Athletics will be celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day with a free youth clinic on Sunday at 11 a.m. in Gerhard Fieldhouse.
This is the second of three Title IX 50th Anniversary weekends, where each team invites a noteworthy alumna to join them and be publicly recognized. Six women's programs honored alumnae in the fall, and the spring teams will get their chance on the weekend of March 25-26. That spring weekend will kick off with a special dinner to honor the 50-year history of women's athletics at Bucknell.
This Sunday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Bucknell student-athletes will hold a free sports clinic for girls and boys grades K-7 in Gerhard Fieldhouse in the KLARC at Bucknell University. Sports will include soccer, volleyball, field hockey, lacrosse, rowing, softball, track and field, and others. Attendees should wear sneakers, and water will be provided. Registration will begin at 10:45 a.m., and parents/guardians must be present at the clinic to sign a waiver.
Here is a look at this weekend's honorees:
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL vs. Loyola on Saturday, 2 p.m., Sojka Pavilion
Kristin Dunleavy Britten '93 will be the basketball team's honoree prior to the game against Loyola. Dunleavy played in 48 games for the Bison in 1991 and 1992 before her career was cut short by a knee injury. She has since gone on to a terrific coaching career at her alma mater, Trinity High School in Camp Hill, Pa., where she won a state championship as a player and has led her team to a number of deep runs in the state playoffs as a coach. Last season, she was named the Pennsylvania Class 3A State Coach of the Year.
WOMEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING hosting the Bison Invitational on Saturday, 12 p.m., Kinney Natatorium
Head coach Dan Schinnerer welcomes back one of Bucknell's all-time greats, Kathy Frazier '82. Frazier came to Bucknell from just up the road in Williamsport, and she went on to become a 19-time swimming All-American. As a senior, she posted three top-5 finishes at the AIAW Division II National Championships. Swimming primarily the butterfly and freestyle events, she compiled an 84-5 career record in dual meets and graduated with eight school records. In 1987, Frazier became the first woman swimmer to be inducted into the Bucknell Athletics Hall of Fame.
WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD hosting the Bison Open & Multi, Saturday, 11 a.m., Gerhard Fieldhouse
Track & field alum Monique Boley Alexander '05 will be honored prior to the 400-meter dash (approximately 1:40 p.m.), which was her primary event during her Bucknell career. Boley was a 5-time All-Patriot League honoree for the Bison. As a senior, she was runner-up in the indoor 500 meters and third in the outdoor 400 at the Patriot League Championships, and she graduated with top-10 times in program history in both events, as well as several relays. Boley was a key contributor on some of the most dominant women's track & field teams in the history of the Patriot League. During her four years at Bucknell, the Bison won seven of a possible eight indoor and outdoor league championships, and she was a part of teams that set league records for most points and the largest victory margin.
