LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell director of athletics and recreation Jermaine Truax was appointed to the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Selection Committee in 2018, and this year he has been selected to chair the committee.
Truax heads a 10-person team that is tasked with determining the 24-team FCS playoff bracket, as well as discussing and legislating issues that pertain to FCS football. He oversees the only NCAA committee that is entirely comprised of athletic directors.
Of note, Truax is believed to be the first person of color to chair the FCS Selection Committee.
"I am honored to serve as the chair of the FCS Selection Committee," said Truax, who is in his fifth year as AD at Bucknell. "We have a terrific group of athletic directors representing each of the 10 FCS conferences, and we are looking forward to taking on the difficult challenge of completing the 24-team championship field. Our committee is comprised of individuals who have a passion for FCS football and promoting its continued growth throughout the regular season and into our exciting postseason tournament."
The FCS championship field is comprised of 10 automatic qualifiers and 14 at-large berths and will be announced on Sunday, Nov. 20 on ESPNU. First-round games will be played on Saturday, Nov. 26, with the championship game to be televised on ABC on Sunday, Jan. 8 at 2 p.m. ET at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas.
Truax oversees Bucknell's 27-sport athletics program that continues to be a national model of scholar-athlete success. Truax recently announced the Bucknell Athletics Strategic Plan, and under his leadership Bison Athletics has set new fundraising records, highlighted by the "One Herd One Day" 24-hour giving challenge topping the $1 million mark for the first time in 2021 followed by a record-setting total of $1,213,172 in 2022.
Truax, who has also served as chair of the Patriot League's committee of football athletic directors, is a former football student-athlete himself at Edinboro University.
