About Bucknell
- The single-day Bucknell Tune Up begins with field events at 5 p.m. on Friday, and the 4x400 is scheduled to begin at 9:15 p.m.
- The Bison last hosted the Bucknell Tune Up in 2020 and collected wins in the pole vault, shot put, weight throw and 60m dash.
- The Bison saw two more athletes post all-time top 10 marks last weekend, and two others earned first-place finishes at the VMI Winter Classic.
- Sophomore Ethan Wolford-Tuffy ran a career-best 48.91 to land ninth on the top 10 list in the 400. He also recorded a personal-best in the 200.
- Junior Anthony Zamarra took second in the shot put at VMI and is now fourth all-time with his 55-2 mark. Is was the best mark by a Bison since school-record holder Joseph Breen set the record in 2017 (56-7.25). It was also Zamarra's third time placing in the top two at a meet this season.
- Junior Samuel Whittaker grabbed a win and an IC4A qualifying time in the 3000, finishing in 8:25.52 to beat out 19 other finishers at VMI. Whittaker also won the event earlier this season at the Gulden Invite.
- Rookie Grant Ellis was Bucknell's other event winner at the VMI Invite. Ellis cleared 6-6.75 to place first among the 23 competitors.
- Bucknell saw three hurdlers make the 60m hurdle finals at VMI. Kameron Schreffler led the way with a fourth-place finish (8.48), while Jack Memoli and Brian Scotto also qualified. Scotto has had an impressive rookie campaign and currently ranks fifth all-time in the event with his 8.21 set at the Bison Open in January. Scotto also ran a personal-best 7.25 in the 60m dash last weekend.
- Also notable last Saturday was a fourth-place finish in the 800 by Thomas Matsumura (1:54.86) and a top-five finish in the mile by Brendan O'Toole (4L17.76).
Coach Donner's Take
"The Bucknell Tune Up is exactly that. A tune-up. We have a lot of different missions for this meet depending on the individual. We are holding some people out to train and rest up for leagues. Others are competing to fine-tune themselves a little. Others are trying to prove themselves so they can put themselves in position to make our league lineup next week, and others will be competing on their last indoor meet of the season and want to end indoors on a high note."
