LEXINGTON, Va. – Anthony Zamarra broke into Bucknell's top ten with a personal-best throw of 55-2 to finish second in the event behind Jaylen Simmons of George Mason. The throw for Zamarra places the junior at fourth on Bucknell's all-time list, and is the best mark by a Bison since school-record holder Joseph Breen set the record in 2017 (56-7.25). Teammate and first-year Braden Stryker had a good outing as well, taking sixth (49-1.75).

"Today was another solid day for the men. We got wins from Ellis in the high jump and Whittaker in the 3000, plus a good number of top three finishes. Zamarra was second in the shot put with a bomb that now puts him number four all-time, and Whittaker's qualifies him for the IC4A. The two-day meet teaches us how to handle the attrition of a two-day championship meet setting," said head coach Kevin Donner.
Grant Ellis provided another positive for the Bison in a strong day for the field events, winning the meet with a leap of 6-6.75 over Jordan Winslow and Kenny Rhyne of Shippensburg, easily clearing his previous personal best of 6-4.25. Thomas Cahill (6th, 6-2.75) and Tristan An (8th, 6-2.75), each also finished in the top ten.
Samuel Whittaker also headlined Bucknell's day two at the VMI Winter Classic as Bucknell's other event winner with a victory in the 3000 on Saturday afternoon (8:25.52). Bucknell had a strong outing in the event, with Ben Santos finishing behind Whittaker in second (8:41.33), and first-year Peter Sorensen taking fifth overall (8:45.07) in the field of 32.
The Bison had three representatives in the final of the 60 hurdles, with Kameron Schreffler leading the way with a fourth-place finish (8.48). Jack Memoli (7th, 8.62) and Brian Scotto also competed on Saturday.
In the 800, Thomas Matsumura finished in the top five (4th, 1:54.86), while Alex Simpson was sixth overall (1:55.19). The Bucknell 4000 distance medley relay squad of Bobby Lynam, Colby Belczyk, Seth Hoffritz, and Quinn McCutcheon placed second overall (10:33.89).
Franco Perinotti placed fourth in the pole vault (14-9), while Aiden Brewer took an eight-place finish (13-3.5).
Brendan O'Toole earned a top-five finish in the mile (4:17.76), and was followed close behind by teammate Lynam (4:18.59).
Bucknell returns to action on Friday, February 18 for the Bucknell Tune Up.
