LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell head women's lacrosse coach Jackie Dando has announced the election of senior Emma Cashwell, senior Eva Macris, and junior Ella Payer as team captains for the 2022 season.
"We are proud to announce our captains for the 2021-22 season," said Dando. "Eva, Emma, and Ella were selected by their teammates and their coaches, and each exudes a team-first mentality. Not only are they all very solid players on the field, but they also have shown great character and optimism, especially during the challenges of playing in a pandemic. They have the respect of their teammates and the trust of the coaching staff. Eva has experience from serving as a junior captain, and we are thrilled to add Emma's intensity and Ella's work ethic to our leadership group. We are excited to see these three lead the team as we continue to grow our team culture and success on the field."
Macris, a defender from Baldwin, Md., is entering her second year as a team captain. She has started all but one game on the back line over the last two seasons, and she enters her senior campaign with 33 ground balls and 20 caused turnovers in 23 career appearances.
Cashwell, a midfielder from Garden City, N.Y., is coming off a strong junior campaign in which she tallied nine goals and three assists for 12 points in nine games. Four of those goals came in the second half of Bucknell's 13-11 home win over Colgate, and she also had three goals and an assist in a 17-15 win over American a week earlier. Cashwell has played in 32 career games, including 10 starts, and has 13 goals and three assists.
Payer earned Second Team All-Patriot League honors as a defender in 2021. The Saratoga Springs, N.Y., native has started 16 of a possible 17 games on defense over her first two seasons with the Bison. Last season, she led the team with 24 draw controls, with a high of five against Lafayette and Lehigh.
Led by an 11-person senior class, Bucknell returns 28 letterwinners from last year's squad that finished 3-6 overall and 3-5 in Patriot League play. The Bison open the 2022 campaign at home against Canisius on Feb. 12 at 12 p.m.
