LEWISBURG, Pa. – First-year Bucknell volleyball middle blocker Valentina Feigl has been named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week after a pair of breakout performances in her first two collegiate matches. Feigl had a strong weekend both offensively and defensively and was a major factor in Sunday's big win over American.
Feigl, a native of Simpsonville, S.C., appeared in all nine sets for Bucknell over the weekend and led the team with 14 blocks (1.56 bps). She was also second on the team in kills (16) and finished with seven digs. Feigl's 1.56 blocks per set currently rank first among all Patriot League players.
Feigl was outstanding at the net all weekend, posting seven total blocks in each match. In Sunday's win over American, the rookie registered six block assists and one block solo while also tacking on nine kills. She led a Bison unit that held a 13-12 edge in blocks against the Eagles in the five-set victory. In the season opener on Friday, Feigl led all players with seven block assists and contributed seven more kills.
Feigl was a four-time All-Region and two-time All-State honoree at Brashier Middle College before arriving at Bucknell.
Bucknell (1-1) begins its second weekend of spring volleyball on Friday when it hosts Navy at Davis Gym for a 6 p.m. match. The Bison then travel south to face the Mids in Annapolis, Md.
