LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell softball team took home two Patriot League weekly awards following its four-game series sweep of Lafayette on Saturday and Monday. Taylor Wolfgang was named the Patriot League Player of the Week, and Zoie Smith was selected as the Rookie of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Wolfgang earned the Player of the Week award for the second time in her career after batting .800 (8-for-10) and racking up nine RBIs in the series. On top of that, the senior finished with two doubles and three home runs for a 1.900 slugging percentage. Wolfgang also walked five times in the series and scored six times herself.
Wolfgang went 3-for-3 at the plate in the first game on Saturday and was a perfect 5-for-5 in Monday's doubleheader. With the three homers, Wolfgang moved into fourth on Bucknell's all-time home runs list with 17 in her career.
Smith, who has already been selected as Rookie of the Week and Player of the Week this season, makes the list again after batting .400 (6-for-15) with seven RBIs and three home runs. Smith had her best game in game two on Saturday, going 3-for-4 at the plate with two home runs, three RBIs and two runs scored. Smith ranks first on the Bison roster this season in hits (15), doubles (4) and home runs (5).
Smith and Wolfgang led a strong offensive effort for Bucknell over the four games that saw the team bat .379. Also notable from the weekend was a 10-RBI showing from junior Nicole Rivait.
Bucknell returns to play this weekend at Holy Cross, where it will play four games against the Crusaders.
