BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Bucknell's Bryant Boswell and Harry Wellford were voted to the 2021 Preseason All-Patriot League Team, the league office announced Friday morning.
A 2019 All-Patriot League Second Team defenseman, Boswell earned his second career spot on the preseason squad. Wellford, who was previously named a Honorable Mention Preseason All-American by the USILA, earned his first nod to the Preseason All-Patriot League squad.
Boswell has appeared in 35 of Bucknell's 36 games during his time in Lewisburg to date, making 24 starts. A valuable faceoff wing, he primarily played long-stick defensive midfielder as a freshman. He enters his senior season with 87 ground balls and 31 caused turnovers.
In 2019, Boswell started all 15 games, finishing third among Bison in ground balls (38) and caused turnovers (16). He logged season-high totals in both ground balls (6) and caused turnovers (3) in the Patriot League quarterfinals at Boston University. During the abbreviated 2020 campaign, he registered 10 caused turnovers and seven ground balls.
Wellford, a sophomore midfielder, was the lone freshman to start all six of the Bison's 2020 contests. He finished fourth among Bison in goals (10) and points (12) and was selected as the Patriot League Rookie of the Week after accounting for four goals during Bucknell's game-winning 8-3 run at Bryant.
Wellford was a four-time state champion at the Mary Institute and Saint Louis Country Day School. He was also the first three-time All-American and four-time all-state first team selection in Missouri history.
In addition, Bucknell was selected to finish sixth in the Patriot League based on a vote by the league's head coaches and sports information directors. Loyola, Army and Lehigh were tabbed as the top-three teams, with all three receiving first-place votes.
The Bison will begin their 2021 slate by hosting Robert Morris on Saturday, Feb. 20 at noon. The complete schedule, which is subject to change, can be viewed here.
