Women's Tennis Competes at Toledo's Rocket Invite

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Bucknell women's tennis team competed against Valparaiso and host Toledo at the Rocket Invite on Friday at the UT Varsity Tennis Courts.
In doubles competition against the Beacons, who head coach Tammy Cecchini led from 2015 to 2018, the Bison picked up a pair of 7-5 victories.
Senior captain Daniela Bellini and freshman Whitney King remained undefeated on the year with their win over sisters Claire and Olivia Czerwonka; it was the duo's seventh-straight victory dating back to the Bucknell Invitational. Sophomores Tyne Miller and Laurel Utterback also defeated Amanda Tabanera and Isabella Schoolcraft.
King, who was coming off earning an individual title at Navy's Bill & Sandra Moore Invitational, edged C. Czerwonka in Blue Singles competition, 7-6, 6-4. Notably, C. Czerwonka, a red-shirt senior, entered the 2021-22 campaign ranked in Valparaiso's top 10 in career singles wins.
Later in the day, King dropped a hard-fought, three-set match to Toledo's Sloane Teske, a 2021 All-MAC honoree and former high school state champion. King won the first set, 7-6, but lost the second two, 6-0, 10-7. The defeat snapped King's seven-match winning streak at singles, an impressive start to her collegiate career.
The Rocket Invite concludes tomorrow, with matches beginning at 10 a.m.
