LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's basketball team earned a spot among the nation's best in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll, as announced by the WBCA on Tuesday. Bucknell ranked 18th among Division I programs and tied with Lafayette with a 3.65 grade-point average during the 2019-20 academic year.
The WBCA Academic Top 25 recognizes NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA and two-year GPAs inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2019-20 season is the 25th in which the WBCA has compiled the honor rolls.
South Dakota secured the top spot with a 3.79 GPA, and three other Patriot League teams - Lehigh, Loyola (Md.), and Lafayette - ranked in the top 20.
Bucknell's academic success was recognized in May when the team received an NCAA Public Recognition Award for having an Academic Progress Rate in the top 10 percent of all women's basketball squads. The Bison also placed all 12 of its players on the 2020 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, while rising senior Abby Kapp represented Bucknell on the Academic All-Patriot League team.
Bucknell's achievements in the classroom were matched with winning play on the court during head coach Trevor Woodruff's first season, as the team went 16-2 in Patriot League play and secured its fourth regular season title in the last five years.
