4/27/2020 4:15:00 PM | Bison Club
LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Many former Bison student-athletes have done on to successful careers in the medical field. Many of them are currently dealing with the most challenging set of circumstances of their professional careers in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. Senior associate director of athletics Todd Newcomb '88 recently sat down with five of those outstanding alumni for a virtual chat, and we learn more about how they are dealing with the situation and how their playing days at Bucknell might have helped them.Â
FRIDAY: We catch up with Kelsy Kauffman, Class of 2017, who captained the Bison field hockey team as a senior. She was a four-time member NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad while majoring in chemistry, and now she is a physician assistant in emergency medicine at Paoli Hospital. Find out more about Kelsy's experiences as one of the first in line to diagnose and treat COVID-19 patients.
THURSDAY: Meet Dr. Callista Costopoulos Morris, Class of 2007, a Bucknell field hockey alum who is now an orthopaedic surgeon at Geisinger Hospital in Danville. Dr. Morris frequently works with Bison student-athletes in her role at Geisinger, but in recent weeks her focus has shifted from elective surgeries to emergency surgeries and telemedicine visits.Â
WEDNESDAY: Learn more from Mark Kramarchuk, Class of 2016, a former defender for the Bison men's soccer team. Mark is pursuing his postgraduate degree in nursing at NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing, and he is spending his days working on a COVID-19 floor at the NYU Langone Medical Center.Â
TUESDAY: Todd chats with Dr. Kristen Sandel, Class of 1998, who was a three-time All-Patriot League selection and a Third Team Academic All-American during her playing days with the Bison softball team. Dr. Sandel is now an emergency medicine physician in Reading, Pa.
MONDAY:Â Meet Dr. Christina Baselga Murray, Class of 1991 and a member of the very first varsity women's soccer team at Bucknell. Dr. Murray is the lead physician with Inova VIP 360 in Fairfax, Va.

This five-part series is presented by Wagner, Dreese, Elsasser and Associates, P.C.
