LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell softball's Raeanne Geffert has been named the Bison Athlete of the Week after a record-setting weekend at the Campbell Invitational. The senior pitcher went 2-1 and picked up a save during the three-day invitational while also breaking three major program pitching records.
Geffert now stands as Bucknell softball's all-time career leader in strikeouts, innings pitched, and wins with the majority of her senior season still ahead. Her first broken record came on Friday when Geffert threw her 465th career strikeout in a 5-4 win over Howard. She passed Amanda Fazio '16 and concluded the weekend with 505 strikeouts on her resume. Geffert also picked up her first save of the season in the Howard game.
On Sunday, Geffert moved to the top of the record books in career innings pitched and career wins in the same game. The Seymour, Conn. native has now pitched 579.2 innings for the Orange and Blue, passing Fazio once more. She threw 10 strikeouts in that game and earned just one run while defeating the Mountaineers 7-4 for her 52nd career victory. With the win, she passed Sharon Nichols '91 in a record that had stood for nearly 30 years.
Geffert almost broke another record when she threw 16 strikeouts in Saturday's win over Mount St. Mary's. It was one shy of the 17 that Brandi Porter threw vs. Lafayette in 2002 and was a career-high for Geffert.
All told, Geffert threw 43 strikeouts over the weekend, collected her 12th career shutout while allowing just two hits in a 5-0 win over the Mountaineers, and is now just one save away from tying that program record.
Bucknell returns to play this weekend in Raleigh, N.C. for games against Indiana, NC State, and Saint Joseph's.
