KENT, Ohio – Ashlyn Ramos took top honors in the 3000 in convincing fashion (9:55.14) to win over second-place Sam Shields of Pittsburgh as Bucknell wrapped up the final day of the Doug Raymond Invitational. Ramos, a sophomore and First Team All-Patriot League Cross Country selection, recorded a personal-best time and an ECAC standard that was just off the mark of making an entrance into Bucknell's top ten list, and recorded Bucknell's lone individual win on the day.
"Ramos continues to run well with a nice win in the 3000," said Head Coach Kevin Donner. "It was good to see Salisbury jumping well again in the triple jump after struggling recently. Macones and Lopes were also good in the triple jump final, and we had three women over 5-4 in the high jump. Forker looked good in the mile, and Sipe continues to throw well in the shot put. It was a very competitive meet, and it will toughen us up for the league meet in two weeks."
Results
Karly Forker placed runner-up in the mile with a new personal-best time as Bucknell's distance runners excelled on the weekend. The finish highlighted four Bucknell runners in the top ten in the event, with Tara Lyons (5th), Nora Bennett (6th), and Kaitlin Ryan (10th), all placing in the top ten out of 36.
Kaitlin Salisbury (6th, 38-0.75) posted a solid mark in the triple jump, while Gianna Macones (7th, 37-10) and Samantha Lopes (9th, 36-9) weren't far behind. Both Salisbury and Lopes occupy top five spots on Bucknell's all-time list in the event.
Bucknell took fourth in the 4x400 (3:56.44), as the team of Valerie Fischer, Bridget Lalonde, Becca Rooney, and Jessie Castellano finished behind Pittsburgh, Duquesne, and Hillsdale. Additionally. Castellano was ninth overall in the open 400 (58.79) one week after recording a personal-best time in the event at the Sykes & Sabock Challenge, while Fischer (59.42) was 15th.
Alexandra Butz finished tied for third with Michaela Bracken in the high jump (5-4.5), while Lexy Forrestal (9th, 5-4.5) also reached the mark. Delia Sipe posted a top-ten finish in the shot put (44-1.25) after throwing a season-best last week at the Sykes & Sabock Challenge.
Bucknell will have one more meet, the Bucknell Tune-Up on Friday, Feb. 21, before the Patriot League Championships from Feb. 29-March 1.
