This Week in Bucknell Athletics

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The men's water polo, volleyball, and women's tennis teams all host home tournaments this week, with wall-to-wall action in each of those three sports. All three are off to great starts, too.

The 14th-ranked men's water polo team is 6-1, with four of the wins and the lone loss coming against other ranked teams. The Bison bounced back from a loss to No. 9 UC San Diego with an 11-8 win over No. 12 Princeton at the Tigers' home invitational over the weekend. This Bison team is trying to stake an early claim as the best team in the East, and they will play three MAWPC East rivals this weekend at Kinney Natatorium ,three of which will be webcast live on the Patriot League Network. And if you haven't yet seen senior All-American Rade Joksimovic, one of the best ever to don a water polo cap at Bucknell, be sure to check him out on his quest for 500 career goals.

The Bison volleyball team is off to its best start in team history at 8-1. Bucknell is on a seven-match winning streak, its longest since 2003, and has won the Bucknell Invitational and Central Connecticut Invitational over the last two weeks. Now the Bison are set to host Hampton, Fairleigh Dickinson and Delaware State at the Bison Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

The women's tennis team, under first-year head coach Tammy Cecchini, is in the midst of its fall tournament circuit. This will be the team's second home event of the season. Be on the lookout for freshman Dax Seidlin, who has won the B singles flight in each of her first two collegiate events, including the Navy Invitational this weekend.

Also of note this week:

Men's soccer has a mid-week home game against Saint Francis (Pa.) on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Field hockey (at Boston University), women's soccer (at Lafayette) and men's soccer (at Colgate) all open up Patriot League play on Saturday on the road.
What a start for the men's golf team. The Bison have finished in second place in each of their first two tournaments of the season, thanks in large part to big Sunday finishes. This past weekend the Bison finished just one stroke behind Columbia for the title at the Cornell Invitational, despite a career-best 67 from Chris Tanabe in the final round. The squad looks to keep it going this week at the Dartmouth Invitational.
Women's golf coach Lisa Francisco takes her team back to her alma mater for Penn State's Nittany Lion Invitational.
After an off week, the Bison cross country teams are back in action on Saturday at Lock Haven.
This is the first of two off weeks for the football team. The Bison return to action at home against Princeton on Sept. 28.
