NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - Three Bison posted nine kills on the way to a 3-0 sweep over Rhode Island Friday night. It was the fourth sweep of the season for the Bison, who move to 6-1 during tournament play.
Bucknell 3, Rhode Island 0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-17)
After a close first set that was decided by a 25-23 margin, Bucknell held the Rams to 17 points or fewer in the following two. The Bison's efforts were highlighted by nine-kill performances by Mimi Richards, Sophie Bullard, and Anna Carroll.
The two teams sat tied at 23-all in the first set, but consecutive kills by Bridgette Holland and Bullard gave the Bison the edge, and the team would not look back. Bullard went on to post six kills in the second, while Carroll cleaned up the third set with five. Carroll also impressed with a team-high three service aces.
As she's done all season long, freshman Kelsey O'Loughlin led the Bison in assists with 33. O'Loughlin also finished third in digs with 11, behind Bullard's 13 and Brooke Stark's 18.
Bucknell also had a field day at the net, racking up eight solo blocks. Richards led the team in the category with a season-high of four. Meanwhile, the Bison maintained a hitting percentage of .248, including a .565 percentage in the second set.
Bucknell continues play at the CCSU Invitational tomorrow, Sept. 14. The Bison will face Saint Peter's at 11 a.m. before taking on the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils at 4 p.m.
