More Than $530,000 Raised for Bucknell University’s Athletics Program During the 24-Hour Event
LEWISBURG, Pa. – Alumni, parents and friends of the Bucknell University athletics program came together and showed their true dedication and loyalty during the One Herd One Day giving challenge in mid-April, raising more than $530,000 in 24 hours for the program. For the third consecutive year, more than 2,100 donors participated in the challenge, raising nearly $1.6 million during that span.
"One Herd One Day was a great example of the tremendous pride and passion our alumni, parents and friends have for the institution and in particular for our athletics programs," said Jermaine Truax, director of athletics and recreation. "Members of our athletics development team, our Bison Club Board of Directors, our head coaches and student-athletes, and our colleagues in University Advancement worked hard to promote the day, and it really showed once the final numbers were tallied. We wouldn't be able to provide our student-athletes with the opportunity to achieve and lead in the classroom, in competition and in the community without such tremendous support."
"The concept of a giving challenge has been extremely successful for our programs over the past few years," said Todd Newcomb '88, the director of the Bison Club. "In addition to the outstanding support we received from our donor base, the event could not have been the success that it was without the assistance of several departments on campus, most notably University Advancement and its gift processing team."
For the third year in a row the football program garnered the top spot in terms of dollars raised, finishing at $67,351. The men's soccer ($52,215) and spiked shoe programs ($48,846) rounded out the top three. The men's golf program led the way with an "average gift size" of $851.
