Melchionni Earns All-East Honors, Marino Posts Personal-Best in Pole Vault
PRINCETON, N.J. --  Billy Melchionni earned All-East Honors in the 400 (49.16) to take third, while Nicholas Marino earned a personal-best of 16-7.25 to take fourth in the pole vault and improve on his second-best mark in Bucknell history as Bucknell wrapped up completion at the IC4A Championships on Sunday. The Bison finished 16th overall on 19 points. Navy (99) won for the second consecutive season, while Monmouth (61), Albany (33.5), Army (32), and Northeastern (31) rounded out the top five.

"I would not rank this as a good IC4A -ECAC Championship as a team for both genders," said head coach Kevin Donner. "The weather was real bad today and it seemed to affect the mindset for many of our athletes. Instead of placing high, many were concerned with just getting better marks, which affected our team scores. The weather did not allow that, but it is still there for everyone. With that said, it's always nice to have people make All-East and we did that with Salisbury in the 100 and Melchionni in the 400. Marino did an outstanding job in the pole vault to place high, and his mark will qualify him for the NCAA. Fay did not have his best day but was still seventh. The pole vault was contested indoors. Having two vaulters at NCAA is exciting, and Coach Delsite is doing a great job with them."
Melchionni's third-place finish ties his highest ever placing at the IC4A Championships. Melchionni also placed third in the 400 at the 2017 IC4A Championships. Alex Dessoye was 12th in the event (50.23), while Steve Rizio was 16th (50.37).Â
With Marino's vault, both he and Matt Fay, who finished seventh (15-11.25), appear to be in a good position to qualify for NCAAs, along with Will Briggs in the discus. Â
Briggs finished 12th (143-11) to just narrowly miss scoring in the event. Â
Reggie Harris was 17th (45-7) in the triple jump.Â
In the 100, Jeff Brown took 18th (11.01), while Bobby Gablein, who scored in the event at the Patriot League Championships, placed 28th (11.14). Â
Qualifying Bison athletes will now turn their attention to the NCAA East Prelims, held on the campus of North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla., beginning on Thursday, May 23. Â
