LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell's Raeanne Geffert and Allyse Volpe repeated as Patriot League Pitcher of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday. The players earned the awards for the second time in as many weeks after leading the Bison to a three-game sweep over Lafayette.
Geffert pitched 12 scoreless innings against Lafayette, giving up four hits and no walks while striking out 23 batters. She had a career-high 15 strikeouts and had a perfect game broken up with two outs in the top of the seventh inning in a 2-0 win in the final game. It would have been her second no-hitter in a span of eight days.
The near perfect game came one day after Geffert shut out Lafayette in the series opener. She allowed three hits and struck out eight while pitching the Bison to an 8-0 win in five innings.
Volpe was selected as the Rookie of the Week after going 7-for-10 at the plate with a pair of stolen bases. She has a hit in all nine Patriot League games while batting .621 (18-29).
Bucknell is 19-15 overall and will put its nine-game winning streak on the line when it hosts Mount St. Mary's for a doubleheader on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
