CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Bucknell's Jessie Britton and Callie DeWitt were honored on the Academic All-Patriot League Team, the league office announced Wednesday morning.
DeWitt, a 2019 All-Patriot League Second Team selection, earned her first career spot on the academic squad while Britton was recognized for the second year in a row. The defenders were among four Bison who started all 17 games this season.
DeWitt paced Bucknell in both ground balls (49) and caused turnovers (38) in 2019. She matched a school record set in 2002 with her number of ground balls and claimed second in school history with her total of caused turnovers. Through the regular season, she was the Patriot League leader in overall ground balls per game (2.88) and tied with Loyola's Lindsey Ehrhardt, the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year, in overall caused turnovers per game (2.24). In Patriot League action, she finished third in caused turnovers per game (2.00) and tied for fourth in ground balls per game (2.56).
A Markets, Innovation & Design major, DeWitt will graduate tied for fifth in the Bison annals with 77 career caused turnovers. The converted midfielder also logged 103 career ground balls, three shy of cracking the program's top 10.
Britton, a junior Biomedical Engineering major, finished second on the team with 20 caused turnovers and second among defenders with 26 ground balls this season. She collected multiple ground balls in nine games, topping out at four at Colgate, and caused two turnovers in eight games. Like DeWitt, she started all 33 of Bucknell's games over the past two campaigns.
