LEWISBURG, Pa. – Four freshmen on the Bucknell wrestling team will compete at the United World Wrestling Junior National Championships, held in conjunction with the Marine Corps U.S. Senior Open, this weekend in Las Vegas.
Making the trip for the Bison are Jacob Ferreira (89kg), Zach Hartman (74kg), Noah Levett (65kg) and Brandon Seidman (57kg). Junior freestyle competition is slated for Friday, April 26 through Saturday, April 27 at the South Point Hotel.
Hartman, an NCAA qualifier at 157 pounds and the first Bucknell freshman to finish as an EIWA runner-up, headlines the group. He and Ferreira were among six Bison who reached the 15-win plateau this season, going 28-9 and 15-11 respectively. Ferreira (184), Hartman and Levett (141) represented the Bison in dual action, with Hartman and Levett moving on to grapple at the EIWA Championships. Seidman wrestled exclusively in tournaments, placing at three in the 125-pound weight class.
The UWW Junior Nationals feature the nation's best 17- to 20-year-old wrestlers, including college underclassmen and high-school upperclassmen. The field has the opportunity to earn All-America honors, and the top eight placewinners at each weight will qualify for next month's UWW Junior Freestyle World Team Trials. Each individual champion will earn an automatic berth to the best-of-three wrestle-off against the challenge tournament champion.Â
