LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell women's tennis improved to 12-5 on the season with a 6-1 win over Mount St. Mary's in a non-conference match Wednesday at the Varsity Courts.
Freshman Daniela Bellini won for the fourth straight match, beating Alexa Quintanilla, 6-3, 6-4, on court one. Quintanilla, a First Team All-NEC selection last season, entered with a 10-7 record, including 4-0 against NEC opponents. Bellini upped her record to 11-5 during the spring.
Junior Paige Leavy also played a former NEC award winner and won in dominant fashion over Hannah Davis, 6-1, 6-2. Davis was voted to the NEC All-Tournament Team last season. Leavy improved to 11-4.
Sophomore Sofia Ayuso posted an impressive win on court five, shutting out Mia Pittman, 6-0, 6-0. Ayuso has the most wins for Bucknell this spring as she moved her record to 13-4.
Adding straight-sets victories for the Bison were Cayla Koch (court two) and Jill Auteri (court six).
Bucknell won two of three doubles matches. Koch and Leavy improved to 11-4 with a 6-2 victory on court one. Auteri and Papich upped their record to 11-5 with a 6-3 victory on court two.
"It was a solid effort. We wanted to go out there and just swing big and we did," Bucknell head coach Rebecca Helt said. "We'll put all our focus on Loyola in these next two days."
Saturday's match against the Greyhounds is scheduled for noon at the McClure Tennis Center in Baltimore.
