EASTON, Pa. – Both the Bucknell women's tennis team and Sofia Ayuso remained unbeaten as the Bison cruised to a 5-2 win over Marist on Saturday at the Northwood Racquet Club.
The Bison improved to 7-0 to start the season for the first time since 2004. The Red Foxes, who were 2-0 against Patriot League opponents coming into the match, dropped to 4-6.
"This was a very solid team performance," Bucknell head coach Rebecca Helt said. "We made some key adjustments from the match yesterday and stuck with a good game plan."
Ayuso also improved to 7-0 in singles this spring, defeating Sam Galu, 6-4, 6-0 on court five. Ayuso is 17-5 during the fall and spring seasons combined. She needs just two more wins to move into the top 20 on Bucknell's single-season list.
All four of Bucknell's singles victories came in straight sets, but Daniela Bellini faced a tough test on court one. She defeated Julia Gabay, a Second Team All-MAAC selection last season, by 7-6, 6-3 scores.
The Bison recorded wins in the top three spots of the lineup. Cayla Koch beat Madison Price, 6-0, 6-2, on court two, and Paige Leavy topped Sophia Moeller 6-3, 6-2 on court three.
Bucknell won both completed doubles matches. Leavy and Koch prevailed 6-1 on court one, while Mishi Papich and Jill Auteri won 6-2 on court three.
The Bison will play their first league match of the season when they take on Colgate at the Drumlins Country Club in Syracuse on Saturday March 2, at 2 p.m.
