LEWISBURG, Pa. – Junior forward Tessa Brugler earned her first Patriot League Player of the Week honor on Monday, after posting a pair of double-doubles in a 2-0 week for Bucknell women's basketball.
Brugler was a major catalyst in Bucknell's wins over George Mason and Drexel, totaling 34 points and 22 rebounds for the week. The junior captain hit career highs in both categories and sported efficient shooting percentages in the process.
On Wednesday, Brugler went 9-of-11 (82%) on field goal attempts and hit 6-of-7 free throws on the way to a 24-point explosion. She was the go-to option on offense for the Bison, who cruised to a 64-51 victory over the Patriots. Brugler hauled in 11 boards as well, which matched her career high.
Brugler was back at it in Sunday's win over the Dragons, grabbing a second straight double-double and her third of the season. The Nazareth, Pa. native contributed 10 points and 11 rebounds, while going 6-for-8 at the foul line. She also added two blocks, two assists, and a steal during the week.
With three double-doubles over the last five games, Brugler has begun to climb the Patriot League's leaderboards. Her .596 field goal percentage and 83.3 percent at the line both rank second in the league. She's also second in offensive rebounds with 30.
Brugler and the Bison are in the midst of a four-game winning streak and will have an opportunity to extend it when they travel to Loretto, Pa. to face Saint Francis on Saturday, Dec. 21.
