This Week in Bucknell Athletics

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- We are down to the final week of action before the Bucknell athletics teams break for two weeks for final exams. It's a busy week, however, as each of Bucknell's winter teams are in action at home, and the Bison men's water polo team once again takes center stage with an NCAA Tournament quarterfinal game at No. 2 USC on Thursday.

What a great performance by the men's water polo team on Saturday! In the first round of the NCAA Tournament at Harvard, the Bison knocked off a top-10-ranked Crimson squad that came into the game with a perfect 29-0 record. All-American Rade Joksimovic led a complete team effort with six goals, and the 12th-ranked Bison held on to win 13-12, making them the last Eastern team standing. That means a trip to the West Coast and a date with No. 2 USC, the defending national champion, at Chris Kjeldsen Pool in Stockton, Calif., on Thursday at 4 p.m. Eastern time. The winner faces Stanford in the semis on Saturday night.

Both Bison basketball squads are on the road for mid-week games and then play at home over the weekend. The women, fresh off a tournament title at the Puerto Rico Clasico, travel to George Mason for a Wednesday morning (11 a.m.) tilt, then a very good Drexel team comes to Sojka Pavilion on Sunday. Meanwhile, the men go to Rider on Tuesday on the 50th anniversary of the very first meeting between the two teams, and then Albany visits Sojka on Saturday night.
Local wrestling fans will want to be in Davis Gym on Thursday night when Bloomsburg comes in for a dual. It will stream on the Patriot League Network if you can't make it over.
The Bison swimming and diving teams will host their annual December trials/finals invitational on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Kinney Natatorium.
Cross country season just wrapped up two weeks ago, and now Bison fans can get their first look at the full track and field squads at the Bison Opener at Gearhard Fieldhouse. The multi-events get going on Friday at 5 p.m., and then a jam-packed Saturday starts at 8:30 a.m. and wraps up with the 4x400 relays at 5 p.m.
