LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's lacrosse team dropped an 18-6 decision to No. 10/8 Loyola on Wednesday night at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.
The Greyhounds (11-3, 7-0 Patriot League) overcame a slow start to remain undefeated in Patriot League play. Since joining the league for the 2014 season, they are 41-0 against Patriot League opponents.
The Bison (3-11, 1-6 Patriot League) came out strong, racing out to a 2-0 lead on a pair of Sarah Galzerano goals netted just over a minute apart. Bucknell's defense held Loyola off the board for almost the first 10 minutes of the contest, with Jamie DeWitt making five stops over that span. One of her more impressive saves came on leading Greyhound scorer Taylor VanThof with 24:16 on the clock; VanThof went top shelf in transition, but DeWitt turned it aside and scooped up the ground ball.
Loyola regrouped, scoring the next four goals to take a 4-2 lead at the 17:57 mark. But Audrey Walsh found the back of the net twice in less than three minutes to even the score with 13:09 left to play in the half. Hannah Savage regained the lead for the Greyhounds 26 seconds later, kicking off a 5-0 run that put them up 9-4 at the half.
Loyola went on to score nine of the second half's 11 goals. While the Bison netted two of the first four, the Greyhounds closed out the game on a 7-0 run that began at the 14:16 mark.
DeWitt finished with 15 saves, two shy of the career high she set in Bucknell's last game at Boston University. She has reached the double digits in saves in nine of 14 games.
Sarah Dohler and Mary Margaret Kenney also found the back of the net for Bucknell while Eve Calabria, Lillie Hunt and Eve Lukowski each dished out one assist.
Loyola held advantages in shots (40-16), ground balls (23-14) and draw controls (19-6). The Greyhounds turned the ball over three fewer times than the Bison, though both teams finished with over 20.
Six Greyhounds enjoyed multi-point outings, led by Livy Rosenzweig (5g-2a). VanThof led all players with nine draw controls while Hannah Powers recorded a game-best five caused turnovers.
With this loss, Bucknell was eliminated from Patriot League Tournament contention. The Bison next travel to Lehigh for a game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
