Bucknell Wrestling Has Successful Bison Intrasquad

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell wrestling team held a successful Bison Intrasquad dual on Thursday night at Davis Gym.
The orange team topped the blue team, 20-13, bolstered by winning four-straight bouts between 157 and 184 pounds. Brandon Stokes put an exclamation mark on his team's come-from-behind victory with a commanding 9-1 major decision at 285 pounds.
A highlight of the dual was Joey Gould's tiebreaker victory at 141 pounds. Gould edged Matthew Kolonia, 2-1, behind a last-second escape in the first tiebreaker frame; the 2017 EIWA placewinner at 133 pounds kept Kolonia from rising to his feet in the second period to secure his win.
Both of Bucknell's 2018 EIWA placewinners won their bouts. David Campbell slipped past freshman Noah Levett, 3-2, in a tightly contested bout at 133 pounds. Drew Phipps was an emphatic 6-1 victor at 197 pounds; the former 184 pounder built up nearly a 1:45 advantage in riding time en route to his win.Â
Almost all of the bouts were even, with four being decided by a single point. Beyond Stokes, only two other Bison scored bonus points for their team: Joey Schiele with a 17-5 major decision at 149 pounds and Zach Hartman with an 11-2 major decision at 157 pounds. Stokes secured the point he needed to earn a major decision by building a 3:38 edge in riding time.
The Bison begin regular-season competition by hosting VMI (11 a.m.), Cleveland State (12:30 p.m.) and Buffalo (2 p.m.) on Sunday, Nov. 11 in Davis Gym.
