Volleyball's Late Run Falls Short Against Holy Cross

The Bison Are at Lehigh and Lafayette Next Weekend
LEWISBURG, Pa. – Each team put together a big run down the stretch, but Holy Cross came out with the 3-1 (25-22, 25-21, 11-25, 25-13) win over Bucknell in Patriot League volleyball action Saturday at Davis Gym.
Trailing 2-0 in the match, Bucknell stayed alive thanks to an impressive 15-1 run to close out the third set. Junior Bridgette Holland had kills on three of the first four points of the run.
Junior Sophie Bullard and freshman Emma Buchanan contributed one kill apiece, junior Brooke Stark had an ace, and sophomore Alexa Bonanno clinched the set with a kill. The other points were scored on Holy Cross attack errors.
Holy Cross turned the tables in the final set using a 5-0 run in the middle and a 6-0 run at the end to secure the win. The Crusaders improved to 6-19 overall and 5-7 in the conference.
Holland had a solid match for Bucknell, finishing with 10 kills, three total blocks, and a .421 hitting percentage. Bullard tallied nine kills and 20 digs, and Bonanno contributed 25 assists and 11 digs.
Holy Cross was led by Claire Honan with five block assists and six kills. Johnna Shamley finished with 10 kills and 15 digs.
Bucknell fell to 6-17 overall and 1-3 in the Patriot League. The Bison are on the road for their next two matches, playing at Lehigh on Friday and at Lafayette on Saturday.
