Bean Named Season's First Patriot League Pitcher of the Week

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell senior Lara Bean has been named the first Corvias Patriot League Softball Pitcher of the Week of the 2017 season. She went 3-0 while making four appearances during the Bison's season-opening 4-1 weekend.
In her lone start during the Gardner-Webb Tournament, Bean gave up just one hit and struck out two in five innings of work in a 5-0 win over Hampton. Bean finished the week giving up just three earned runs and six hits in 14.2 innings of work for a 1.43 ERA, in addition to striking out five.
Bean's three wins came in games against Hampton and Gardner-Webb. She also pitched in a loss to Seton Hall. She didn't give up a single earned run in her three victories.
Bucknell received an outstanding offensive performance from junior Paulina Gutkin at the tournament. She opened the season with a five-game hitting streak, including multiple hits in each of the final four games. She hit .600 (9-15) with a double, triple, and five RBIs.
Bucknell returns to action with another trip south when it plays five games at the Winthrop Invitational on Feb. 24-26. The Bison will play games against North Carolina Central, Winthrop, ETSU, Eastern Kentucky, and Mount St. Mary's
