LEWISBURG, Pa. – For the second consecutive season, the Bucknell women's track and field team has won the Patriot League Outdoor Championships, which concluded Saturday at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.
Bucknell won the team title with 201.5 points, while Boston University was the runner-up at the meet with 161 points. The Bison have now won six of the last eight outdoor Patriot League Championships and 15 total in the 26-year history of the conference.
Head Coach Kevin Donner was named Coach of the Year for the second-straight season, to go along with Coach of the Year honors he received for this year's women's cross-country championship team.
"Although nobody ever has a perfect meet, we came pretty close," said coach Donner. "Our depth was incredible and the athletes were very focused on winning this meet after coming so close indoors. We train and structure our program for outdoors and we were able to display that this weekend."
Jen Silvestri took first in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 1:00.63 to earn First Team All-Patriot League honors. The time is a personal-record and is a new school record. Her mark breaks the previous record set by Khadija Shariff in 2001. That was a big 20-point event for the Bison, as Chrissy Haney took the bronze medal and Laura Papili placed fifth.
Sarah Chandler won the gold in the 1,500, crossing the line in 4:28.02 to earn First Team All-Patriot League honors. Her time is personal-record and ranks third in program history.
Christine Bendzinski was the runner-up in the 1,500 with a time of 4:28.76 to earn All-Patriot League accolades. Kathleen Fitzgerald also scored in the event, taking seventh.
Jess Bridle earned All-Patriot League honors in two events on the day. Bridle was the runner-up in the 400, completing the event with a time of 54.67. Her time breaks her own school record of 54.92. Later in the day, Bridle took second in the 200 with a time of 24.78.
After winning the league title in the hammer Friday, Sophia Nnadi was the runner-up in the shot put, recording a toss of 45-7 ¼ to earn all-league honors. The senior also reached the podium in the discus, taking third with a heave of 144-09.
Abigail Brundage earned the bronze in the shot put with a throw of 45-0 ¼, while Stephanie Easse added to the Bison score with a fifth-place finish in the discus.
In the 4x100 relay, a team comprised of Kafilat Oladiran, Carly Reiner, Kimberley Lapszynski and Bridle took home the bronze medal with a time of 47.39, which ranks fourth in school annals.
Three Bison scored in the 3,000 steeplechase. Margaret Thompson and Elizabeth Sheprow finished fourth and fifth, respectively, while Christine O'Kane took seventh. O'Kane also scored for Bucknell in the 5,000.
Four Bison scored in jumping events on the day. Lauren Hudson and Devon McDonald scored for Bucknell in the high jump, while Reiner along with Alexis Auman scored in the triple jump. Reiner also scored points in the 200.
