Scott, Nnadi Win Events, Bison Women In First at PL Outdoor Championships

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Despite rainy and windy conditions throughout the day, the Bucknell women's track and field team turned in quality results Friday to sit in first-place after day one of the Patriot League Outdoor Championships at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. Bucknell holds a commanding lead with 85.5 points, while Lehigh sits in second with 49.5 points, followed by Navy with 30.5.
Junior Kate Scott helped the Bison get off to a great start with a first-place finish in the 10,000-meter run. Scott earned First Team All-Patriot League honors in the event, for the second-consecutive season, with a time of 36:01.18.
Running in her first 10,000 event, senior Deanna Godby earned the bronze medal in the event with an ECAC-qualifying time of 36:34.83, which is a new top-10 program mark. Senior Alison Billas also scored for the Bison, placing sixth with an ECAC-qualifying time of 37:07.58.
Senior Sophia Nnadi added another league title to her resume Friday, taking home the gold in the hammer throw. Nnadi finished first with a heave of 180-08, which shatters her previous personal-record of 170-10.
Senior Tara Lee took home the bronze in the hammer event with a toss of 163-03, setting a new personal-record. Ellen Kalnins placed fourth in the event to round out the Bison scorers.
In the 4x800 relay, a team consisting of Kathleen Fitzgerald, Colleen Buckley, Sarah Chandler and Christine Bendzinski earned Second Team All-PL accolades with a time of 9:02.28.
Bucknell dominated the javelin throw with four Bison scoring in the event. Senior Dayna Simone earned All-Patriot League accolades with her runner-up finish. Simone recorded a heave of 149-08, which is a new personal-record and ranks fourth in school annals.
Junior Rebecca Skovira took home the bronze, posting a throw of 145-10, which is also a new personal-record. Senior Meg Sangimino finished fourth, respectively, while freshman Kasey Getkin took seventh to round out the Bison scorers.
Sophomore Chloe Brown added to the Bison score with a fourth-place finish in the pole vault. Brown recorded a height of 11-7 ¾, which is a new personal-record and a top-10 program mark.
Junior Kimberley Lapszynski took third in the long jump, recording a leap of 18-6. Senior Devon McDonald also scored in event, finishing fourth, respectively.
Senior Jess Bridle advanced past the preliminaries of the 200 on Friday, winning her heat with a time of 24.51 to finish second overall. The time breaks her own school-record of 24.55.
Carly Reiner (100) Jen Silvestri (100 hurdles) and Janiel Slowly (100 hurdles) each reached the finals in their respective events that will take place on Saturday.
The championship meet concludes Saturday with points in 15 events up for grabs. Competition begins at 11:15 a.m. with the men's triple jump and concludes with the men's 4x400 relay at 5:25 p.m. Saturday's events will broadcast on the Patriot League Network.
