LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell senior wrestler Joe Stolfi (Souderton, Pa./Harleysville) received a special award at the University's annual Senior Athletic Awards Banquet, sponsored by the Bison Club and held at the Elaine Langone Center on Sunday.
Stolfi won the Bison Club Award, which is presented to the senior athletes who best exemplify the winning spirit of the University's athletic program.
In addition to Stolfi, several other student-athletes were honored at the banquet, including the winners of the Christy Mathewson Award, given to the most outstanding athletes in the senior class.
Just the third four-time NCAA qualifier in school history, Stolfi finished his outstanding Bison wrestling career third in program history with 120 victories. He was a four-time EIWA placewinner, winning the 285-pound title in 2014 to become the third wrestler in school annals to take home a gold medal at the prestigious event.
Stolfi crushed the Bison record for career pins, putting opponents on their backs 65 times, including a career-best 23 in 2013-14. He was among the nation's leaders in pins three times, including 2014-15 when he led the country in that category.
Stolfi registered six career victories at the NCAA Championships and had eight career wins against nationally ranked opponents. He was a three-time winner of the team's William A. Graham IV Most Outstanding Wrestler Award.
Stolfi got a late start to his final season due to an injury, but he still managed to post a 21-4 mark with nearly two-thirds of those victories by fall. He was a perfect 13-0 in bouts decided by fall this season.
Over the last four year, Stolfi helped the Bison wrestling program to 43 dual victories, the second-most in any four-year stretch in program history, including a school-record 15 wins in 2014-15.
