LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell's Maria Cioffi was named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team in women's tennis on Thursday. The senior team captain closes her career as an impressive three-time member of the All-Academic squad.
To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.
Cioffi, the 2014 Patriot League Women's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year, also earned a spot on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll all four years at Bucknell, and was a Dean's List student every semester. She is a mathematics major with a 3.86 GPA.
A First Team All-Patriot League selection this season, Cioffi finished 26-6 overall in singles, including a 17-4 mark during the spring. She added an outstanding doubles season to her resume, going 23-10 overall and 15-7 during the spring.
Cioffi garnered All-Patriot League honors all four seasons with the Bison, including First Team recognition three times. She leaves the program as the career record holder in singles wins and combined wins.
With a record of 22-3 against league opponents during her career, Cioffi has been one of the best players in the Patriot League all four years.
