LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell softball team looks to win its third consecutive Patriot League series to open the season when it hosts Army West Point for a doubleheader on Sunday at noon and one game on Monday at 4 p.m.
The Bison are 20-11 overall and 5-1 in the Patriot League. They opened their league schedule by winning two out of three games at home against Holy Cross and then added a sweep last weekend in a three-game series at Lafayette.
Bucknell took a break from its conference schedule to play a doubleheader at Pittsburgh on Wednesday. The Bison dropped the first game but responded with a 5-4 win in the second game. It was the team's first win over a team from the Atlantic Coast Conference at the time of the game since 1997.
Lauren Hadley came through with a clutch home run in the win over the Panthers. It was her second blast of her rookie campaign.
Hadley's home run was the ninth of the season for Bucknell, which ranks third in the Patriot League. The Bison lead the conference in both doubles with 52 and in triples with eight. Sophomore Meghan Kovac leads all players with 15 doubles, while freshman Anna Gimmestad is third with 11.
Army West Point enters the weekend at 22-13 overall and 4-1 in the Patriot League after sweeping a doubleheader with Yale in its most recent competition. The Black Knights opened league play with a three-game sweep over Boston University, and then split a doubleheader with Colgate.
Bucknell has won six straight meetings with Army West Point, including a sweep of the season series last year. Both teams went on to qualify for the Patriot League Tournament, where the Bison advanced to the championship game.
The Black Knights had two players, Kasey McCravey and Emily Gray, named to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team. McCravey leads the conference in home runs with five and runs scored with 34.
