Women's Tennis Set for Three Matches this Week

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's tennis team looks to win for the third straight match when it travels to play Villanova on Tuesday at 2 p.m. It is the first of three matches for the Bison this week, as they open league play with home contests against Loyola (Md.) on Saturday at noon and Colgate on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Bison are 6-4 after posting a 4-3 win over Bryant and a 7-0 victory Mount St. Mary's in its two most recent matches. Maria Cioffi, Lisa Jouravleva, Lauren Fishbein and Madeline Melch all went 2-0 in singles in the two wins.
Cioffi's two wins improved her spring record to 7-2, which includes a current winning streak of six matches. Fishbein leads the team in wins with a record of 8-1, including wins in each of her past four matches.
Jouravleva also has a nice winning streak intact with victories in four straight matches. She is 6-1 in dual matches. Melch improved to 4-2.
at Villanova | Tuesday, 2 p.m.
- Villanova is 4-6 with losses in each of its past two matches. Both defeats came by shutout, including a 7-0 loss to Seton Hall and a 4-0 loss to Xavier.
- The Wildcats are 1-1 against Patriot League opponents this season, falling 6-1 to Navy and beating Lehigh 4-3.
- Bucknell is 13-5 in the all-time series with Villanova.
- The Bison won last year's meeting 6-1. Cioffi, Jouravleva, Melch, Michele Urbinati and Melissa Parks had wins in singles.
vs. Loyola (Md.) | Saturday, noon
- Loyola is 6-4 following a 7-0 win at Rider. The Greyhounds have won four of their past five matches.
- The Greyhounds are 0-1 in league play with a 6-1 loss to Lehigh.
- Loyola was picked to finish sixth in the Patriot League.
- Bucknell leads 4-3 in the all-time series.
- The Greyhounds won last year's meeting 5-2. Cioffi and Melch had wins in singles.
vs. Colgate | Sunday, 1 p.m.
- Colgate is 6-6 overall and 1-0 in the Patriot League after a 6-1 win over Holy Cross.
- The win over the Crusaders snapped a four-match losing streak.
- Colgate was picked to finish seventh in the Patriot League.
- Bucknell is 18-20 in the all-time series with Colgate. The teams first met in 1977.
- The Bison recorded a 7-0 shutout in last year's meeting. Cioffi, Jouravleva, Stephanie Pino, Urbinati, Melch and Parks had wins in singles.
