LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell assistant wrestling coach and former Bison All-American Kevin LeValley recently qualified for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials. The first-year assistant who graduated from Bucknell in 2011 won the 74kg weight class at last week's Dave Schultz Memorial Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colorado, securing an automatic invite to the U.S. Olympic Team Trials.
The U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Wrestling are scheduled for April 9-10 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa. This will be LeValley's second appearance at the U.S. Olympic Trials, having previously competed at them in 2012.
LeValley won the title at the Dave Schultz Memorial Invitational by injury default against Bekzod Abdurakhmonov. The second-seeded LeValley advanced to the championship bout thanks to a pair of tech falls and a 10-3 decision over Andrew Sorrenson.
LeValley, who served as team captain while competing at Bucknell, had a remarkable career during his time as a Bison, earning All-America honors in 2010 and 2011. The three-time NCAA qualifier at 149 pounds compiled a 127-40 career record, including 42-8 as a junior and 34-3 as a senior. He became the second Bucknell wrestler to win an EIWA title, handing Cornell's Kyle Dake his final collegiate loss in the 2011 EIWA finals in Sojka Pavilion.
LeValley has continued to compete internationally in recent years. He has been ranked as high as 18th in the world, and is a current member of the U.S. National Team. He has had great success in international competitions, earning gold at the 2013 Cerro Pelado International in Cuba, taking second at the 2014 Alexander Medved International in Belarus and placing third at the 2014 Dave Schultz Memorial International. He also finished fourth at the 2014 U.S. Open and third at the 2015 World Team Trials.
